Netizens in China to reach 120 million

Chinanews Mar. 23 -China is facing the third wave of internet industry
development this year as positive factors acted in unison to contribute
to the current development. There were previously two upsurges of new
infrastructure and network applications around 1995 and 1999.
On the 2005 Forum of Internet Industry Situations on March 22, the
spokesman of the Internet Association of China said that China's internet
industry has developed from the stage of unitary intranet to the current
pervasive internet that almost every ordinary person can have access. The
number of internet users has been growing rapidly. The figure had grown
to 94 million in 2004 and it is estimated that it will reach 120 million
this year.
On the course of this fast development, China has spent great effort on
the research of diverse business applications in the internet industry
and harmonized the relations between upstream and downstream enterprises
in the industry chain. Sectors like e-mail service, search engine, online
banking, online trade, online advertising, online news and online games
have all witnessed fast growth.
