Educational expenditure growing

The urban investigation team of the Shanghai Municipal Statistical Bureau
conducted a survey on more than 3,000 urban families in Shanghai
recently. The survey indicates that the educational expenditure of
Shanghai residents continued to grow rapidly since the mid-90s. In 2003,
per capita educational expenditure reached 937 yuan, an increase of 761
yuan over 1995, with an annual growth rate of 23.2%. Education accounted
for 8.5% of total consumer expenditures in 2003, while it was only 3% in
1995.
