China named Friday former Dalian Shide head coach Vladimir Petrovic as
the executive coach of the national soccer team.

The Serbian had a one-year contract with the Chinese Football Association
(CFA) until September 30, 2008, when China finishes the third-round
matches of the qualification in Asian Zone of the 2010 World Cup.

Petrovic, 52, replaced Zhu Guanghu, who was sacked last month as coach
following the national team's disappointing performance at the Asian Cup.

Petrovic is under the guidance of Ratomir Dujkovic, who is the manager of
the national team and the national Olympic team, and recommended his
former Belgrad Red Star teammate to the CFA.

His main task is to herald China to a successful World Cup qualification
journey in the following one year. China will play against Myanmar in the
first leg of the first-round qualification in Fushan, Guangdong, on
October 21.

"This is a highlight of my career as the coach of Chinese national team.
I'm looking forward to working with Dujkovic to form up the national
team," Petrovic said through an interpretor?at a news conference.
